Burning Man

Monday, August 27th – Sunday, September 2nd
Black Rock City, NV

I know, I know – it’s a bit odd to be posting here about an event way down in Nevada. But the fact is that there’s not much going on in Seattle this week, and I think it’s because everyone is at Burning Man. The Emerald City has a very strong Burner presence, and there’s a lot of crossover with the local tech community. You can see this at events like Dorkbot, and the occasional Ignite presentation. But the Seattle Burning Man folks do have their own weekly meetup – head down to the Lower Level of CHAC on Monday nights to learn more. Well, when everybody gets back, of course.

JoCo, Yo

Jonathan Coulton is the unofficial geek troubadour, a smart, funny, ex-code monkey turned Web 2.0-enabled singer/songwriter/podcaster/blogger. Coulton’s songs – 52 of them written in a heroic year of tunesmithing delivered by the “Thing A Week” podcast – include such subject matter as cloning, cyborgs, evil-yet-sensitive villains, devolution, Mandelbrot sets, zombies, Flickr, and Mac laptops. Coulton (or “JoCo,” as the hep cats say) will be performing live in Seattle thrice in the next month, and I highly recommend taking the opportunity to go to a concert. You can see him this Saturday at 9:00 at the Penny Arcade Expo, at Bumbershoot (thrice!) on September 1st through the 3rd, and at the awesome Triple Door on Sunday, September 23rd.

More details are available at Coulton’s blog.
