(Canceled) WordPress Upgrade Party

[UPDATE: Well, looks like this isn’t happening tonight after all. Bummer. If any WordPressers want to get together in the future, let me know. There must be a few of us out there.]

If this blog starts looking a little funky tonight, it may be because I’ll be joining geeks around the world in upgrading to the new version of WordPress. Version 2.3 was released on Monday, and from what I can see, it’s a must-install. The new plugin update notification system alone is worth any minor inconvenience it takes to do install the new release.

WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg will host an upgrade party at his apartment in San Fransisco, and blogging geeks in cities around the world are expected to follow suit. Here in Seattle, Beth Goza has bravely offered to throw a get-together. Sign up here to let her know you’re coming. She may cancel, though, if there’s not enough interest, so be sure check the Upcoming site before you go.

Somewhere in Seattle

Details are still a little sketchy, but here’s what we know. O’Reilly Radar and Waggle Labs are co-hosting a party on October 12th. They’re promising a night to “celebrate Seattle’s tech community” (our kind of people), with DJ’s, tech presentations, local art, probably a whole lot more. Given the hosts, we’re expecting something along the lines of Ignite Seattle and Dorkbot. Whatever this party turns out to be however, it all adds up to a night of geeky, make-y fun. Head over to the Thingamajiggr website for details on how to get tickets.
