Oliver Sacks is a world-renowned neurologist and best-selling author. But this week he’s in town promoting his latest book, Musicophilia, which explores all the different ways that music can affect the brain. He’s a dynamic speaker, and this is a great opportunity to see him in person. He’ll be at the Seattle Public Library on Friday evening. No word on whether Robert DeNiro will be in attendance.
The Redmond Socrates Café meetup is organized by Scott Berkun, author of the awesome book The Myths of Innovation. Berkun leads a small group each month in a discussion of whatever philosophical questions happen to be on everyone’s mind. Based on principles laid out at the Society for Philosophical Inquiry, the discussions are free-flowing and stimulating, and the group changes each month, so there’s a real sense of spontanaeity. The group only has room for a dozen attendees at each gathering, so join the meetup and sign up early next month if you’d like to take part.
