Jonah Lehrer: Proust was a Neuroscientist

Tuesday, November 13th @ 7:30pm
Town Hall
1119 8th Ave. (Downtown)

Bored tonight? Looking to brush up on some neuroscience? It’s a bit last minute, but if you’re looking for something to do, you should head down to Town Hall to see Jonah Lehrer talk about his new book Proust was a Neuroscientist. The essence of Lehrer’s writing is that artist’s such as Proust and Cezanne have been able to anticipate certain aspects of the natural world that couldn’t be proven by science until later. So what can science learn by studying art? You have to pay $5 at the door to get in, the usual Town Hall rate.

Puget Sound Stereo Camera Club

Saturday, November 10, 2007, noon – 3pm
4016 South 352nd Street
Federal Way, Washington

Seattle has an active photo buff community. The local Flickr meetup, for instance, has 722 members and multiple well-attended events monthly. Today, through my Saturday House email feed, I learned about the Puget Sound Stereo Camera Club, meeting happening this afternoon in Federal Way.

It’s weird to learn about something you never even considered might exist and discover that there’s actually a pretty active community around it. (Kinda like the furries phenomenon… but that’s for a whole ‘nother blog.) The PSSCC has regular monthly meetings, monthly stereo photo competitions, and a gallery of great pix on the site. If you’re into 3D photography, or are interested in learning more, drop down to Federal Way and check out the action.

(Don’t have a stereo camera of your own? Learn how to make one yourself here.)
