Cory Doctorow @ Elliot Bay Books

Saturday, May 17th @ 7:30pm
Elliot Bay Book Co.
101 S Main St. (Pioneer Square)

Is it fair to call Cory Doctorow the patron saint of blogging? Maybe that’s a bit over-the-top. Regardless, he’s going to be in town this weekend and next week pimping his latest book – Little Brother, a novel for young adults about “San Francisco hacker kids who fight back against the Department of Homeland Security” Most authors would be content with just a stop at Elliot Bay Books, but not Doctorow: he’s making 3 (!) additional stops around Seattle: Ballard Library on Sunday at 2pm, All for Kids Books on Monday at 4pm, and then Ravenna Third Place Books on Tuesday at 7pm. As of now, it’s unclear if he’ll be travelling via high-altitude balloon.

“Never mix business with pleasure.” So goes the old adage. (Also, orange juice and toothpaste make a really nasty combination.) But what about business and micro-blogging? Are they two great tastes that taste great together? Randy Stewart, social media strategist and Senior Product Manager of Boxbe, will attempt to find out at tonight’s Seattle Social Media Club gathering.

Randy will give a short introduction to Twitter and microblogging followed by an interactive forum designed to help you get the most out of your micro-blogging feed. Full details are on Upcoming, and registration through Eventbrite is free. And if anyone is live-twittering the event, let us know, would ya?
