Site update: a leaner Pig

Sharp-eyed visitors will have noticed a change in this site’s design in the last couple of weeks. In hopes of making Meet at the Pig a bit more usable, we have reduced the number of entries on the home page to two and moved the Calendar from a separate page to the bottom of the home page. We’ve also eliminated the Recurring Events page, as all recurring events should now show up on the embedded Google Calendar.

In fact, the Google Calendar has become our default tool for publishing events, replacing the Upcoming feed that we had been using. Mainly, this is precisely because we can put recurring events on the calendar as well as one-offs, and it’s much easier, in our opinion, to scan through the Google Calendar to find an upcoming gathering.

If you’re reading the site through RSS, these changes probably don’t affect you. However, we’d like to know if this broke any essential functionality for our readers. If you like the new layout, hate it, or have any other opinions or suggestions for the site, we’d love to hear from you in the comments.
