“Never mix business with pleasure.” So goes the old adage. (Also, orange juice and toothpaste make a really nasty combination.) But what about business and micro-blogging? Are they two great tastes that taste great together? Randy Stewart, social media strategist and Senior Product Manager of Boxbe, will attempt to find out at tonight’s Seattle Social Media Club gathering.

Randy will give a short introduction to Twitter and microblogging followed by an interactive forum designed to help you get the most out of your micro-blogging feed. Are you working in – or interested in – the environment or sustainability? Meet up with the local Seattle Greendrinks group on the second Tuesday of every month. Tonight, they’ll meet at the Theo Chocolate factory in Fremont. Greendrinks offers a casual way for people in the environmental field to get together, exchange ideas, or just relax and unwind after hours with others of like interests. Details are still a little sketchy, but here’s what we know. O’Reilly Radar and Waggle Labs are co-hosting a party on October 12th. They’re promising a night to “celebrate Seattle’s tech community” (our kind of people), with DJ’s, tech presentations, local art, probably a whole lot more. Given the hosts, we’re expecting something along the lines of Ignite Seattle and Dorkbot. Whatever this party turns out to be however, it all adds up to a night of geeky, make-y fun. I know, I know – it’s a bit odd to be posting here about an event way down in Nevada. But the fact is that there’s not much going on in Seattle this week, and I think it’s because everyone is at Burning Man. The Emerald City has a very strong Burner presence, and there’s a lot of crossover with the local tech community. You can see this at events like Dorkbot, and the occasional Ignite presentation. But the Seattle Burning Man folks do have their own weekly meetup – head down to the Lower Level of CHAC on Monday nights to learn more. Well, when everybody gets back, of course.
